A new build west of the city with a wide open main floor, so the island had to work as the room's centrepiece rather than just a prep surface. It runs the full width of the kitchen with a seating overhang along one side, and we laid the slab so the heaviest gold veining falls across the middle of the top where it reads from the living area. The perimeter run and the sink cabinet carry the same stone so the two surfaces belong to each other. Black undermount sink and tap set against the walnut fronts, templated and installed by our own crew.

Veining Placed, Not Left to Chance
On a slab this expressive the layout is the job. We set the island so the strongest gold veins land across the centre of the top, where they read from the living room rather than disappearing under the overhang.
Island Built for Seating
The top carries an overhang down one long side for stools, supported so there is no bracket in anyone's knees. The same stone continues onto the perimeter run and around the range.
