High-Gloss Kitchen with Seating Island
High-Gloss Kitchen with Seating Island
West St. Paul, Manitoba August 2026
High-gloss white doors and flat grey walls make a hard, reflective room, so the counter is where the texture had to come from. The homeowners picked a speckled white quartz with fine mirror flecks through it, which catches the light from the vaulted ceiling without adding another colour to the room. The island is close to square and seats four, and the perimeter counter wraps the corner window in one continuous run with a mitred corner rather than a butt seam. Black hardware throughout keeps the edges defined against all that white.

Texture Where the Room Had None
Gloss slab doors and painted walls give the eye nothing to hold. A finely speckled stone puts grain back into the room at counter height, which is the one surface people actually stand over.
One Run Around the Corner
The counter turns the corner window as a single mitred piece instead of two tops butted together, so there is no seam sitting in the brightest part of the room.
